Since purchasing our first
Simmentals Sunshine Camelot Birgitta and Ashleigh
Rosie 6 and successfully breeding some
bulls to sell to be used in the dairy industry
the herd has moved on. Replacements,
daughters of the above, our now my main blood
lines and with two new daughters this year
, sired by my new bull Hunstmead Mike whom I
purchased from the Gould family at Fordingbridge.
With using Hunstmead Mike on our dairy herd, who
is a Salcombe Flash son, we have found a vast
improvement on dairy cross breeds which we sell
as stores. The family having farmed here at
Eastwood for three generations, rearing their own
replacements from purchased Holstein bulls.
The latest acquisition being Carymoor Lightning
Sired by Regancrest Elton Dante bred by RHH &
EN Targett & Sons at Castle Cary.
We have just had our first calves from him.
Two heifers and a bull, and looking forward to
see the heifers in production
The Simmental Bull has been very profitably used
as a cross beef breed and each time we have
purchased a bull we have seen great improvements
in our store animals, moving on from
purchased bulls to our own first reared bull
Chellswood Grenidar, then Chellswood Lester,
sired by Brinkton Brilliant., and now with the
purchase of Hunstmead Mike.
We have decided to sell all the sheep and
concentrate more on rearing dairy and beef
replacements and stores. We still support
our local Cheese Maker. Wyke Farms with our
milk hoping in return the will do the same for
us.
